Tooth Extraction Recovery Tips

Posted .

Are you about to get a decayed, damaged, or otherwise affected or troublesome tooth removed? If so, you’re about to achieve the strong and healthy smile you deserve! After your tooth removal treatment, it’s best to focus on recovery. The recovery period is quite important. So, our dentist, Dr. Vivian Hudson, encourages you to properly recover following tooth extraction by doing the following things:

-Make sure to rest for two to three days. Resting is the most important.

-Take the medication your dentist prescribed to you. This should help reduce the pain.

-Reduce bleeding by biting down on a gauze pad until the clot forms. Make sure to switch out the pads when they are full of blood.

-Ice outside the area with an ice pack to reduce swelling and pain.

-Don’t rinse your mouth or spit within the first 24 hours after surgery.

-Don’t drink from a straw. Drinking from a straw can dislodge the clot.

-Have a soft-foods diet. Your diet can include yogurt, soup, ice cream, and more.

-Brush your teeth but avoid the surgical site while doing so.
